The CHRISTENING became for many inhabitants of Irkutsk joyful requirement to plunge on January of 19th in cold water of Ershovsky Bay or lake Baikals' ice-holes. Water is consecrate and healing, so people can take blessed water from ice-holes to treat any illness.
ZIMNIEADA already become traditional festival of winter sports and tourist actions. It opens on 23rd of February, on ice of the Irkutsk bay near ice breaker "Angara". In an opening day people play football and hockey. Zimnieada lasts till the end of March and includes set of interesting competitions: transition through Baikal, marathons on the fads, skis, the dog teams.
PANCAKE WEEK lasts from last Sunday February till first Sunday of March. It is accepted to visit friends or relatives to eat pancakes, to give gifts, and dashing, with the Siberian enthusiasm generosity to walk with all the heart this celebratory week.
DAY OF BAIKAL is celebrated on 26th of August. Ecological actions, cultural programs, lectures, meetings in protection of Baikal are carried out.
